The Porn Battle masterlist is up here. Scroll down for the Stargate stuff, it's listed alphabetically.

There were eight SG-1 stories, of which two were Jack/Daniel, one was Jack/Daniel artwork, there was a Daniel/Sha'uri, a Carter/Martouf, two Sam/Janets, one Sam/Jack ... and a partridge in a pear tree. It's a small haul ... only two more than Sanctuary ... but at least we're still in there. Fighting the good pron battle. *g*

I'm re-posting my entry here, so that it's archived at my place, and [personal profile] etrangerici won't have to go wrangling it for me two years down the line. ;-)

Original responses to That Would be the Fever Talking are here

In other news: Watched MS in Smallville and really enjoyed it. Possible review to follow but I will just say the return of The Scruff was much appreciated by me, and the comic book stuff was much appreciated by the man I married. It's worth mentioning that I also married a vast comic collection that has followed us with every house move. *g* Ratings were great, apparently. Let's hope this leads somewhere great for Michael BECAUSE SOMEONE SHOULD GIVE THIS MAN HIS OWN F*ING SHOW AND YES I'M CAPSLOCKING ABOUT THAT.

Happy Sunday.

I read a lot of fanfic. A lot.

I consume, devour, regroup and then do it all over again.

When I first came into SG fandom, I read anything I could lay my hands on. I often emerged twitching and red-eyed and certain I wasn't watching the same show these people were writing about. FFnet virtually turned me off reading fic altogether; Daniel cries a lot over there and Sam has a lot of babies and Jack is some sort of Terminator clone, and Teal'C? (sic) Who he? *shudders*

Since then, I've become much more discerning. We all do. It's natural. We learn what we like, what we don't, what works and what doesn't.

As a voracious reader, I feel I should share the stories I love, for the very good reason that I think you'll probably like them too. Even if you don't love them. I don't expect anyone's tastes to match my own completely. That would be unreasonable ... not to say weird. *g* But I like to think I know you well enough to know what might just work for you.

So, I've decided that I should rec a whole lot more often than I do now.

What I'm going to do is share older stories; ones that you may have missed or have read and consigned to memory. They may be new to you; people join fandoms at different times, and that would be great.

This is my intention this year. I'll still rec new stuff when it hits my squee button (and if it's from the usual suspects, your buttons will being pinged even without me reccing!) but mostly this will feature fic posted some time ago.

First up: A story I read when I came into fandom, shied away from because it had an element of Jack/Sam, but OMG I re-read again this week and knelt at its feet and unashamedly wept my joy.

Descant
by [personal profile] destina is beautiful in its complexity, bold in its subject matter and executed to perfection.

This is a Jack/Daniel piece that tells of their love not only through Jack/Daniel but through Daniel/Sarah and Jack/Sam. These relationships are dealt with in a realistic and heartbreaking way. It was never going to work, for either couple, not while there was Jack/Daniel, which there was, from the very beginning, even if they tried a million ways not to acknowledge it.

In this story, we watch Daniel at Sam and Jack's engagement party, floundering in his love for both of them and aching for the one thing he'll never have; we also see the final, sad deconstruction of his marriage. We see, and feel for, Sam, trying to make a marriage work that Jack knew -- and probably she did, too -- was doomed from the beginning. She is stoic and pragmatic and honest enough to want to move on.

There is a huge emotional cost to all four.

And then ... then we reach the moment when it boils down to the two men and their feelings. Which way will they go, now that there is a choice to be freely made?

I love this fic so much. It is beautiful and hard and real.

It is written in trademark straightforward but eloquent and incisive language by a writer who knows these characters down to the marrow and knows what she's doing.

It's a joy, from beginning to end.

If anyone knows this story, or reads it now, do let me know what you think.

*loves my fandom, loves the writers*

Remember Adam? My geeky colleague who was stiff-armed, er, persuaded, into watching SG-1 by meeeeeee?

Well, he's powering through his shiny 10-season collection, and this week, on a freezing cold lunch hour, I bribed, er, enticed, him with a warming latte to tell me how the Grand First Watch was going.

Go beneath the cut for Threads ("It went on a bit") his thoughts on the Ori ("I liked the Goa'uld") and Claudia Black ("I'll be in be in my bunk")
Disclaimer: These are his thoughts, not mine. Don't shoot the messenger. *g*

Jack/Daniel porn battle fic, 1,600 words, written to the prompt fever.

Probably more h/c than porn actually. But there is porn. I think.

Porn Battle IX is go!

List of prompts is here and some jolly delicious ones there are too. SG-1 is pretty well represented, and there are some yummy Jack/Daniel suggestions. Hopefully, I'll snaffle the odd one myself, RL permitting. New Trek and Supernatural appear at first (very quick) glance to win the internetz in terms of number of prompts for individual shows/films.

Go here for rules and posting details etc.

Go forth and commit porn, people. You have until February 1.

In other news: 1,200 words so far of Jack/Sara/Kawalsky for Gateverse OT3. Not a huge amount, but it's coming along.

I'm watching Glee (glee!) and Being Human (am in love) and Mad Men returns on Wednesday.

I so need a viewing clone. And a writing one. Please oblige with all haste.

My colleague, Adam, is a geek.

He loves sci fi and online gaming but ... gasp ... he's never watched SG-1.

"You've never seen SG-1?" I said, the pain in my voice obvious and deep.

"Well, I caught the odd ep. Watched Atlantis until I got bored in season 2. Watched Universe for six eps until I lapsed into a coma."

"But ... but you've never watched SG-1. Never properly watched SG-1?" I think I may have loomed menacingly across the desk at this point.

"Um. No. But I have a feeling I'm about to ..."

He acquired the first five seasons by unnamed means and then caved and bought all ten seasons plus movies for £100 from Amazon.

I didn't prime him. I didn't tell him what I loved, why I loved it, what I didn't like, why I didn't buy this or that. Honest. Because I wanted to know what someone untouched by fandom opinion thought of the show. Fresh views! Unbiased opinions ftw!

He's now mid-way through season 8 and we finally had The Stargate Conversation (you know, the one where it all comes out, ship leanings, character assassinations etc) over a lunchtime latte this week.

Go beneath the cut for a newbie's view of SG-1. And I didn't prompt him at all. Hee.

I've just left a few prompts over at [info]sg1_beyond_otp, Prompts can be left until the 20th.

They are great prompts. Awesome prompts. I mean, look, really. How can you resist??? And if someone doesn't write them, I will be very, very upset and probably have to flounce right out of the fandom.

Just sayin'.

Heh.

Check them out [personal profile] discodiva76 . There's one that might look familiar!

Over at sg1_beyond_OTP there is a Gateverse OT3+ ficathon -brewin'. Go, leave prompts, pick up quills or pom poms.

I was trying to fire up the synapses to submit a prompt or two ... and then I saw THIS prompt in the list already submitted and can't think of anything else and OMG I WANT TO WRITE THIS SO MUCH IT HUUUUURTS.

SG-1; Charlie Kawalsky/Jack O'Neill/Sara O'Neill; can't take another loss

Aaagh! It taps into my Strange Bewilderment universe
so perfectly.

I watched the new (now new-ish, I suppose) Star Trek movie on DVD the other night. I'd seen it once before, on the night flight back from Vancouver, but I don't count that as a real "watch" since I was gripping the seat arm rests and chanting "notgonnadieupherenotgonnadieuphere" too much to, you, know, enjoy the film.

Anyway. I have a question.

As someone who was never wholly into the original series ... I've seen most of it over the years on re-runs etc ... was there ever a "thing" between Uhura and Spock in the Nichols/Nimoy era? Was it ever hinted at, or was it ever realised? I liked that there was a "thing" in the new movie. I thought Uhura rocked. I liked the Bones/Kirk stuff more though. *g*

I also gather there was some sort of Uhura backlash in fandom over the new movie. Was this simply because of the whole Kirk/Spock OTP thing?

Here is a list of the lovely fic and artwork posted at the weekend "OMG-take-my-mind-off-this-craptastic-weather thonnnnn!"

Come Sit By My Fire
by [personal profile] sg_wonderland  “Still cold,” he mumbled. “Well, maybe something will come along and warm you up.” Jack slipped on his sunglasses and eyed the road in front of them.

Luscious
by [personal profile] stagnation13  He could stay in bed all day, he figured. Bribe Jack with luscious blow jobs to bring him coffee and snacks. That would work.

Too Warm for the Covers by [personal profile] paian  Atmospheric artwork featuring two men in love and one large bed.

Warming Up by [personal profile] lesasaur  “Daniel, this is porn!” Jack hissed, looking around his office to make sure they were alone. Daniel nodded. “Why do you think I told you not to read it aloud.”

Warming Up Nicely by [personal profile] melayneseahawk "There's something reassuring about real fire. Primal. It looks warm."

An Early Thaw
by Cowardly Lion. "C'mon." Jack put a hand out to Daniel.  "Let's teach you how to skate."

Touch by [personal profile] jdjunkie  No endearments here. Just “fuck,” because it was base and honest and there was nothing more honest than one man’s hand on another’s cock.

Thanks so much for taking part, whether by writing, creating artwork or leaving feedback. It was all very last-minute and I'm always surprised and delighted when people respond so generously.

The insta-quick-post-it-don't-sweat-it-a-thon has ended!

Some wonderful ficlets and artwork guaranteed to warm up the coldest winter; funny, warm, scorchingly hot, loving ...

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed and left feedback. The cockles of my heart are truly warmed right through. :-))

I'll post a round-up in the next couple of days.

Thanks again ... we must do it again sometime.

So. It's like this.

Here in the UK, we're in the midst of the worst winter in 30 years. There is snow up to my armpits (slight exaggeration but, yeah, writer's licence) and, quite frankly, I've had enough, and so have a lot of others (peers through the blinding white-out at [personal profile] discodiva76 ).

There is only one thing to do. There is only one thing that can alleviate the horror that is winter. Hold a thon! Or, as [personal profile] paian called it A THONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Or something like that.

This is another insta-quick-post-it-don't-sweat-it athon.
Again, just like last time, I say, I don't, I REALLY don't want folk to angst about it or spend days and months honing their jewelled words to perfection.
Now ... this is NOT complusory. I won't be offended if you don't take part. We all have Real Lives (yes we do, as much as we try to minimise their impact on our fannish fun) and this won't work for everyone.
But.
If you want to play, here's the plan.
Write ten, 100, 1,000, a bazillion words ... however many or few as you see fit, 526 sounds nice ... to the said prompt. Then post the results at my place so that we can all share.
This is meant to be fast and fun.
No angsting on the part of the writer allowed. Jack/Daniel or Jack and Daniel or teamy goodness allowed. Any rating.
Just. Do. It.
Please post responses here, because the word count is soooo great. Yay!
And the theme this time round: What else could it be ... Hot and cold.

Hot, cold, both together, separate, literal, metaphorical, angst, crack, humour, porn, whatever you've got, bring it. just, bring.it and help say "Screw you winter," or "Screw you blazing hot summer" if your hemisphere is not mine. *g*

Thon, or thonnnnnnnnnnnn! runs until 6pm GMT on Monday, then, if anyone is kind enough to respond with fic, art, poetry etc, I'll post a masterlist of luscious linkies.

So ... a thon, then? Anyone?

::all thon contributions are dedicated to my customary thon-running buddy, [personal profile] sid . I'm flying solo this time because RL is proving all too real for her just now. With love, [personal profile] sid , baby::

It means, oh beloved flist, that I have a new squee in my life. :-)

Let me explain. For Christmas, Mr Junkie bought me one of the Donald Strachey Mysteries movies ... Third Man Out, to be exact. I watched it and immediately fell head over heels in love with Donald and Timothy. Seriously. This pairing ... loving, tender, snarky, funny, they dance (OMG so beautifully, points to icon) and they cry together. I am in heaven. I ordered a second movie (there are four) Shock to the System. I fell even more in love. There are books, too, six or seven, I believe.

Donald is a private investigator and Timothy, his husband, is aide to a politician. The stories are set in NY but filmed in Toronto and Vancouver and the films are jam-packed with Stargate alumni. So far, I have spotted Nyan (yes, he's alive and well!), Commander Reiger (nasty man who caged our heroes and really pissed Daniel off when he zapped Jack), Anne-Marie deLuise (the blonde woman in The Other Side and I think she was also Cam's beloved Amy Vandenburg) and a Jaffa!

And ... there is fanfic, people! I even recognise a couple of the authors from J/D.

This is the first pairing I have wanted to wallow in since Jack/Daniel. I mean, I love Supernatural but I don't read the fic and avoid the fandom like the plague. But I can see myself dipping my toe in what is a very small fandom, which is something new for me.

So, the question is ... any of my flisters share my squee? If so, please speak up. I cannot be the only one to adore the awesomeness that is Donald and Timothy.

PS This does not mean I love Jack and Daniel any less, and I have plot bunnies hopping again like mad March hares. Yay!

PPS Happy New Year. May 2010 be great for all of us.

A slightly early Christmas present from me.

Breaking the Ice.

Rated: R

Jack/Daniel.

3,950 words.

This is set on Christmas Eve in season seven, three months after Daniel's return. There is some bad language and a modicum of seasonal sap, I fear. Hopefully nothing too distressing. *g*

With love to my glorious, inspiring, wonderful fandom.

Happy Holidays.

I haven't been writing much lately, although I have lots of ideas.

One thing I have been working on, though, is a post-Past and Present story (thanks for the nudge [personal profile] princessofgeeks ). This ficlet is a rejected part of that. It's gone off in a slightly different direction, but I think this works as is. It's just not part of the story I'm working on now.

So ...

Do You Want the Truth, or Something Beautiful?
Jack/Daniel (Daniel/Ke'ra mentioned)
958 words.
Rating: NC-17 (sex and language)

For Jack/Daniel writers everywhere, who continue to rock my fandom world. :-)

BONUS: I watched Rules of Engagement as part of the "watching around P&P" research for the fic, and came across the scene featured in the lovely icon. The scene that has been bugging me for ages because I couldn't pin it down and I love the shot of Jack and Daniel SO MUCH. Yay! Mystery solved.
